Biology

Subject: Biology
Grade: 10 (Required Course)
Length of Course: First and Second Semester
Prerequisite: None

INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES:

1) The students will become aware of their effects on the environment and that they are an integral part of the biosphere. Students will learn to use the microscope.
2) To create an awareness of the development of the single cell and evolvement to multicellular life. Students will learn about structural basis of life.
3) Introduce the student to the world of genetics.
4) To create awareness of the complexity of inter species relationships. Students will learn structures and functions of structures of invertebrate animals by lab dissection.
5) To allow the student to see how organic variations has played a major role in development of species and organisms. Students will learn structures and functions of structures of vertebrate animals by lab dissection.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Biology is intended as a general life biology course to make the student more aware of what life is and how it functions. Organic variation is a major course topic and is pursued by the study of genetics, taxonomy, and dissection of invertebrate and vertebrate animals.

WHAT STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO DO:

Most of the reading and learning of vocabulary words and questions is expected to be done outside of classroom time. Students are expected to participate in classroom discussions. Students are expected to perform hands-on laboratory work. Students are expected to learn structures and functions of structures. Students will be evaluated constantly by quizzes and tests throughout each main course of study. Students are expected to hand in daily work of labs and written homework of vocabulary and questions.

EVALUATION

Final grades will be determined as follows.
33 percent daily work
33 percent quizzes
33 percent tests
