COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to reinforce students’ ability to express their ideas about literature. This course will include the following selections for reading and analysis: In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger, and several choices from the book club: A Separate Peace by John Knowles, I am the Cheese by Robert Cormier, Homecoming by Cynthia Voigt, or Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, Go Ask Alice by unknown author, The Old Man and the Sean by Ernest Hemingway, Speak by Laurie Halsne Anderson, Cold River by William Judson, Monster by Walter Dean Myers, Geeks by Jon Katz, The Wave by Todd Strasser, Painted House by John Grisham, Bad by Jean Ferris. Other titles can be read if approved by the teacher.
EVALUATION:
Evaluative essays, extended literary analysis, tests, speeches, and quizzes.
