CURRICULUM BENCHMARKS:

·        Identify the possible energy sources available to earth.

·        Identify how the forces of energy result in weather.

·        Know the rock cycle.

·        Know the mechanics of and phenomena of plate tectonics.

·        Know the moon’s orbit and effect on the earth.

·        Know the structure of the universe.

·        Know the relationship between geologic earth and life.

·        Design and conduct a scientific investigation (formulate questions, design and execute an investigation, interpret data, synthesize evidence into explanations.

·        Uses appropriate tools and techniques to gather, analyze, and interpret scientific data.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Earth science is the study of the earth and its environment. Topics are incorporated into both text and laboratory investigations. The major theme is the universality of change from weather and rock cycle through plate tectonics to change in the makeup and arrangement of the universe.

WHAT STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO DO:

·        Read assigned chapters and learn vocabulary words.

·        Complete assignments on time.

·        Take part in classroom discussions.

·        Perform hands‑on laboratory work.

·        Complete special projects (weather watch, moon watch, etc.)

·        Conduct and carry out research projects, as assigned.

EVALUATION:

·        Students will be evaluated by quizzes and tests throughout each main course of study.

·        Students will be graded on daily work, including labs, vocabulary, questions and special assignments.
