INTRODUCTION TO ART

CURRICULUM BENCHMARKS:

·        Applies media, techniques and processes with sufficient skill and sensitivity that one’s intentions are carried out in art works.

·        Understands how the communication of ideas relates to the media and techniques one chooses.

·        Understands the effectiveness of art works in terms of organizational structures and functions.

·        Learns how organizational principles and functions can be used to solve specific visual problems.

·        Applies various subjects, symbols and ideas to one’s own artwork.

·        Learns the relationships among works of art in terms of history and culture.

·        Understands how various interpretations can be used to evaluate works of art.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Students will explore the areas of drawing, painting, printmaking, and three‑dimensional expression. Activities are planned to encourage creativity, originality, and self‑expression. The course will help students decide if they wish to continue exploration of the visual arts.

WHAT STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO DO:

Students are expected to:

·        Have an interest in and a willingness to explore the various areas of art mentioned above.

·        Come prepared to class.

·        Be attentive and cooperative in class.

·        Work to the best of their ability, completing all assignments.

·        Build a background for any other art course they might take.

EVALUATION:

Students will be evaluated using the following criteria:

·        Understanding and use of the concept taught.

·        Use of materials and supplies.

·        Creativity

·        Originality

·        Effort.

 Letter grades (ABCDF) will be given to all completed work.
