At a special meeting on Friday, August 29, the Hinton Community School District Board of Education approved a resolution to place a bond referendum on the November 4, 2025 ballot. The proposed referendum, not to exceed $8.9 million, will focus on addressing essential infrastructure and classroom improvements throughout the district.
The 2025 referendum follows two earlier attempts in 2023 and 2024 that did not pass. Since then, the district has listened to community feedback and refined its approach, focusing this proposal on the most critical infrastructure needs.
Over the past several years, Hinton CSD has demonstrated a strong commitment to fiscal responsibility, using SAVE (Secure an Advanced Vision for Education) and PPEL (Physical Plant and Equipment Levy) funds to complete major capital improvements without raising taxes. These investments have significantly reduced the long-term tax burden while addressing aging infrastructure.
Practical Updates – Taking Care of What Matters Most
The 2025 referendum represents the next step in Hinton’s long-term facility improvement plan. The proposal is designed to enhance safety, accessibility, and learning environments through a range of core updates, including:
Replacing aging heating and cooling systems
Installing energy-efficient lighting
Upgrading outdated windows, ceilings, and electrical systems
Removing asbestos where necessary
Repairing damaged brickwork to protect the building envelope
Upgrading restrooms to meet ADA accessibility standards
In addition, the referendum includes classroom-focused improvements that will support students and staff with updated, functional learning spaces, including:
Renovating the high school shop, art, and science classrooms to support hands-on learning
Adding two classrooms to the elementary building to accommodate growing needs
Building on Previous Success
The 2025 referendum builds on the 2024 SAVE and PPEL-funded projects, which addressed immediate facility needs at no cost to taxpayers.
This next phase focuses on the most urgent remaining improvements—ensuring that school buildings stay safe, efficient, and future-ready for generations to come.
