My name is Madalyn Hewitt, I am the new AmeriCorps member serving as a naturalist with the Plymouth County Conservation Board. I am excited to get started and to get to know each of you throughout the next year. AmeriCorps service is directed at 4th- 12th grade students. Currently, I am offering a survival type skills development program over the course of the next several months. Students will meet once a month; each month will focus on a particular training aspect. At the end of the training, next summer, we will host “The Hungerford Games”, where students will use the skills learned throughout past training sessions in a competition of “survival” here at Hillview recreational area. I have planned to hold training in two group sessions the second Sunday of the month, October through April, from 1-3 and 3-5 pm. We will hold the competition in June of 2021. The idea is to get the older aged students involved with environmental education and share the opportunity AmeriCorps can offer to assist them as they graduate and move onto bigger and better things. I would appreciate it if you could please share this information and flyer throughout parents, students, and staff. This is a free program aimed at student’s 6th through 12th grade. Dear families, Students in 7-12th grade will continue to stay in hybrid for one more week making Monday, October 19th our return date for everyone. This decision is based on multiple pieces of information including the recommendation from Public Health as we want to continue hybrid for a full incubation period (14 days) with the mask mandate in place without concern about additional cases from the school contact. It is vital for students in 7-12th grade to check their emails and Canvas at 8 am daily to avoid missing deadlines and information pertinent to their learning and grades. It is also important for parents to call by 9 am if their student is sick and unable to participate in distance learning that day. While we recognize flexibility and grace has been important in this year’s transition, we have gradually increased our accountability of students and will be less likely to accept late work as we approach the end of 1st quarter. JH football game Oct.13 @Akron will now start at 4:30 instead of 4:00.

The 2 hr early out scheduled for October 7 has been moved to Friday October 9 due to hybrid scheduling.

JV football Game scheduled for Monday, October 5 has been canceled.

Students in grades Preschool to sixth grade will have school pictures taken on Friday, October 9 as planned. Due to hybrid learning for grades 7-11, their school picture day will be after they return from hybrid. That date will be announced later.

A mask mandate policy for the entire Hinton School District will be in effect starting Monday, October 5th, specifically when physical distancing of 6 feet cannot be achieved with the exception recess, lunch, and times they are participating in physical activity. Students who do not feel comfortable wearing a mask at school may choose distance learning. A doctor's note stating that a face mask puts the child at risk medically is required to make exceptions to this policy. However, that student would have to quarantine if contact traced. If a household member tests positive, the other family members would have to still be quarantined as well. Anyone who tests positive for Covid-19 would still have to isolate for 10 days. This mask mandate policy applies all events on school grounds when physical distancing of 6 feet cannot be achieved.

Parents of students in grades 7-12 that are wanting to pick up a free lunch for their students while they are on hybrid they available for pick up from 10-11 Monday - Friday in the Superintendent's office.

Many have heard that Iowa will revise its quarantine guidelines to allow close contacts to remain in school if both parties were wearing masks at the time of close contact. This will not change timelines for students currently quarantined since Hinton Schools does not currently have a mask mandate.

JH football Tuesday with Lawton Bronson will be 6 quarters starting at 4:30.

The JH Football game scheduled for Monday 9-28 has been moved to Tuesday 9-29 at 4:30 in Hinton.

JV football game has been added at Gehlen on Monday replacing the AW game. 6:00 start

JV football game with Akron Westfield on Monday, September 28 has been cancelled.

Unfortunately due to the limited available players the Varsity football game Friday, September 25, with West Sioux has been cancelled.

HS Football parents night will be held Friday Sept. 25. Football parents meet at the south end of the track no later than 6:45. Use the tickets provided earlier for admission.
